The NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Committee selected Wednesday the individuals who will compete in the singles and doubles competition of the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. Kenyon College senior Diana Aboubakare (Orange, CA/Luther) earned one of those singles spots and claimed, with freshman Erika Oku (Hinsdale, IL/Hunsdale Central), an alternate spot in the doubles field.

The appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship will be Aboubakare's third straight. In her sophomore season, she lost in the first round of play. Last season, as a junior, she picked up a round-one win and claimed All-America honors before bowing out in the second round.

This season, Aboubakare heads into the NCAA Singles Championship with a 17-5 record, including a 13-2 mark playing as Kenyon's No. 1 player in dual meets. Overall, Aboubakare is 68-35 in her four years at Kenyon.

Aboubakare and Oku, as a doubles team, are 24-7 overall and 15-5 playing in Kenyon's No. 1 spot. There is, however, no certainty that the pair will get a chance to play on the NCAA stage. Aboubakare and Oku are listed as the third alternate, meaning three doubles teams from the field need to scratch before the Kenyon duo gets the opportunity.

The championship fields consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships was based on win-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

Both the singles and doubles championships will take place May 24-26 at Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California. The draws for the singles and doubles championship will be done by the women's tennis committee and will be released on May 23.
